Pogba prays for ‘those suffering slavery in Libya’

After returning with style from a two-month injury-induced holiday, Manchester United star and France international, Paul Pogba has prayed for African migrants stranded and sold into slavery in Libya calling on Allah to help the victims and end the cruelty.

Pogba showed his concern in a tweet while celebrating his return to action with one goal in Man United’s 4-1 demolition of Newcastle on Saturday.

The midfielder who dazzled the home fans at Old Trafford wrote on Twitter: “While very happy to be back, my prayers go to those suffering slavery in #Libya. May Allah be by your side and may this cruelty come to an end!”

His prayer is in reference to the recent video published by the CNN showing where African migrants seeking to cross to Europe via Libya were been auctioned as slaves after becoming stranded from the rigours of the dangerous journey.

The video which was shot in August 2017 was published recently showing footage of a warehouse in which men are auctioned off into slavery.

In the investigation done by CNN, it was discovered that migrants were being auctioned for as low as $400. Most of the slaves were migrants seeking to cross to Europe via the Mediterranean sea to Italy.

The African Union on Friday called for Libyan authorities to investigate “slave markets” of black Africans operating in the conflict-torn nation, following the release of shocking images showing the sale of young men.

Guinean President Alpha Conde, who is also Chairman of the African Union, demanded an enquiry and prosecutions relating to what he termed a “despicable trade… from another era”.

Meanwhile Senegal’s government. commenting on Facebook, expressed “outrage at the sale of Sub-Saharan African migrants on Libyan soil,” which constituted a “blight on the conscience of humanity”.
