Margaret Nwosu, the mother of 26-year-old Nnamdi Ogba, a Nigerian who was shot dead during a random attack in Toronto, Canada has demanded justice for her eldest son.

Ogba’s mother made the demand on Tuesday via a micro-blogging social network, Twitter, while reacting to news of the two suspects Toronto police alleged they are looking for in connection to her son’s murder.

She said,

“They took away my heart… Who do they think they are taking an innocent life? I hope… my face haunts them for the rest of their lives.”

The deceased mother who moved to Canada 15 years ago said Ogba relocated to the country ten years ago.

Nwosu said,

“When you come from another country to Canada, you come here for a better life.”

She said her murdered son, who was the eldest of five boys, attended Seneca College and became an electrical engineer after graduation. She said he was “well respected” at home as well as in the community.

Ogba’s stepfather, Sylva Okezie, who spoke to Global News, described him as a quiet young man who didn’t talk much but had a good heart.

He said,

“He didn’t talk much, Nnamdi was quiet, but he had heart. If you needed something, he was there.”

It was reported on Friday (March 16) that Ogba stopped by Sccarlettwood Court in Etobicoke to visit a teammate around 11:00 pm when he was approached from behind by two men who shot him in the back.

The family said before his death, during his spare time, he usually play soccer on the field with his fiancée whom he had planned to marry this year.

However, a homicide detective, Jason Shankaran, on Monday (March 19) after releasing surveillance video of two young men wanted in connection with the shooting, described the murder as a random attack.

He said,

“Mr. Ogba did nothing to bring this on himself.”

According to investigators, the assailants fired multiple shots before escaping in an SUV waiting for them close by.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time someone has been shot and killed in the Scarlettwood Court area.

Shaquille Wallace, a 22-year-old man was on January 9 discovered in the same area with multiple gunshots wounds. Paramedics tried to save his life but he late died and the police also branded it “a case of random attack.”

The police had told Global News that they are now looking into potential links between the two cases because of the proximity and similarity of the alleged killings.

Ogba’s family, however, wants to see the suspects come forward on their own. The deceased mother who pleaded with witnesses to come out also called on the perpetrators to turn themselves in.

She said,

“Turn yourself in! Turn yourself in! You have to turn yourself in! How can you live with what you have done — destroying a family!. Someone knows who these young men are.”

The deceased family said they hope Ogba’s case will lead to both an arrest and a change in the area.

Okezie while referring to Scarlettwood Court said,

“People are being shot at, being targeted, they are dying… I would think police and their resources would be focused there.”

Nwosu concluded by saying,

“I don’t even know how to go on, how to cope. Our lives will never be the same.”
