CEASE AND DESIST! Pharrell Williams bans Donald Trump from playing his music at rallies
American rapper and singer, Pharrell Williams, has banned President Donald Trump from playing his music at rallies.
The singer’s lawyer, Howard King, sent a cease-and-desist letter to the president after he played his hit single “Happy” at an event in Indiana just hours after nearly a dozen people were killed in a Pittsburgh synagogue.
The letter cited in UK’s Independent reads,
“Pharrell has not, and will not, grant you permission to publicly perform or otherwise broadcast or disseminate any of his music,
“On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist’, you played his song Happy to a crowd at a political event in Indiana.
“There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose, the letter reads”
Williams’ lawyer pointed out that the deployment of the song was ill-timed and also highlighted it was used in violation of “copyright infringement” and “trademark rights.”
“There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose,” the lawyer said.

The 45-year-old R&B star further stated that he “will not” allow Trump to use music from his back catalogue at any future event.
Numerous musicians have also objected to Trump’s use of their music in the past.
Top music stars like Adele, Neil Young, the Rolling Stones, Queen, REM and the estate of Prince have also reacted after Trump used their music without seeking their consent.
Recall that Trump has announced his plans to terminate the right to citizenship for babies born on US soil to non-citizens.
A person comes in, has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits.
“It’s ridiculous, it’s ridiculous and it has to end,” he said.
