Covid-19: 10 medical doctors contract virus in Kano
President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Abubakar Nagoma, has said that at least ten medical doctors at the hospital have contracted COVID-19.
Nagoma, who made this known on Monday in Kano, said the health experts got infected while treating patients due to non-use of face masks by patients and lack of adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for doctors.
He noted that doctors can easily be infected when treating patients with no symptoms of the virus and after testing, the patients test positive for COVID-19.
According to Nagoma, those affected are resident doctors who are undergoing training and consultant doctors, adding that more tests will show if the number will rise.

He noted that the infected doctors are part of the over 100 health workers across who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.
“We have resident and consultant doctors that were tested positive of COVID-19 in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,” he said.
“About ten doctors are confirmed positive with COVID-19. Eight of them are already in isolation centre, while the remaining two are in self-isolation at their homes because they do not have any symptoms. All their close contact have been traced.
“There are more test results that are yet to be out for doctors and other health workers of the hospital that were screened last week. The number of those screened is almost a hundred. We are expecting the results likely within the week to know the fate of health workers of the hospital,” Nagoma said.
