Some Nigerians on social media are presently at loggerheads with popular Twitter user Matthew Amadichinma otherwise known on the microblogging site as Mazi over his response to a tweet by DJ Cuppy.

Cuppy had taken to her verified Twitter handle on Monday to express her opinion about giveaways on the platform.

She had tweeted:

“To all my Cupcakes that complain I don’t do Money Giveaways, I hear you… BUT I’ve always felt like that was essentially paying people to be your fans? #TeamCuppy.”

Mazi, who is renowned on Twitter for doing frequent giveaways and rendering financial assistance to social media users, quoted the tweet and wrote:

“No Ma, it is compensation for the trauma and emotional turmoil we go through enduring your music. We still love you sha. Music or no music. You are adorable.”

His response apparently didn’t sit well with many Twitter users who accused him of trolling and bullying Cuppy.

The tweet soon sparked an uproar on the microblogging site making #FreeCuppy, Mazi and DJ Cuppy trending topics on Twitter Nigeria since Monday night.

Twitter users tweeting with the #FreeCuppy hashtag are condemning what they described as frequent cyberbullying DJ Cuppy has been subjected to in the past and called on social media users to stop attacking her.

A Twitter user wrote:
