HE’S A COCOA MERCHANT AND LANDOWNER! Anthony Joshua’s great-grandfather had 25 wives, says report
That World Heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, is Nigerian is no longer news, but what many may not know about the Ogun State indigene is that is great-grandfather had 25 wives.
Joshua’s great-grandfather, Prince Daniel Adebambo Joshua, popularly known as ‘Baba Josh’, is a cocoa merchant, landowner and humanitarian.

Brown, in a thread via his Twitter handle @oliverbrown_tel, explained that he was in Sagamu, the Joshuas hometown in Ogun State, to trace the boxer’s aristocratic roots.
He wrote:
This is Anthony’s great-grandfather, Prince Daniel Adebambo Joshua, aka ‘Baba Josh’. A cocoa merchant, landowner and humanitarian. Many buildings across Sagamu named in his honour. He had 25 wives
Raymond Ajakaiye, Anthony’s cousin, lived with him in Watford when the two were teenagers. Now back in Nigeria, he says: ‘We all speak Yoruba to him. He is aware of the culture. This is his ancestral home’
For all the palpable pride in Anthony’s boxing feats, there are also tinges of sadness. In the words of his uncle, Funmi Odusolu, a renowned artist in the region: ‘We should have been far more consequential as a family’
Chief Adelaja Joshua, head of the family and once a fine boxer himself, reflects: ‘He is a son of this house. This place will forever be a part of him.’
