He’s an upgrade from Dalung, Nigerians react as Sunday Dare becomes new sports minister
The appointment of Sunday Dare as the Minister for Youth and Sports by President Muhammadu Buhari has sparked reactions from Nigerians on social media.
WuzupNigeria reports that Buhari swore-in the 43 ministers at the Aso Villa in Abuja, on Wednesday and thereafter assigned portfolios to them.
Dare, 53, who until his nomination as a Minister was the executive commissioner in charge of stakeholders management at the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), is a veteran journalist and former media aide to former Governor of Lagos State Bola Tinubu.
He is from Ogbomosho in Oyo State.
His appointment as the new helmsman of the Sports and Youth ministry has sparked mixed reactions from sports-loving Nigerians on social media who are of the opinion that he would perform better than his predecessor Solomon Dalung who was always in the eye of controversy during his time as the Sports Minister.
While some praised his deployment to the ministry, others were of the opinion that as a veteran journalist who also displayed good knowledge of the communication industry during his ministerial screening, he should have been deployed to the Ministry of Communication to assist Isa Patami, a former Director-General and CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) who is also an expert in the communication industry.

Some social media user also believed Dare is in the wrong place because, according to them, he has held no prior administrative position in Sports.
See some of the reactions:
Sunday Dare as Sports Minister looks a very good choice and fit. Hard for anyone to really do anything significant in sports with NYSC gobbling up most of the funds for that Ministry but I expect he’d be supremely better than Dalung. Dalung was an unforgivable embarrassment.

Sunday Dare (age 53) as Minister of Youth & Sports… Definitely an upgrade from Dalung. For this we can be thankful… However the Ministry should just be called Min of Sports, as youth have no decision making role on that big table (read: this govt)

Sunday Dare would have been left in communication. He did well during the ministerial screening. His knowledge about communication is top notch. Guess what, he was assigned Minister of Sport/youth development.#BuhariCabinet

Don’t be quick to comment on peoples post. I never said he should be the Substantive Minister. He can assist your great Pantami. Or is it a crime to have the best people for their fields. Talking about experience, go visit that of Sunday Dare. Guess you missed his screening.

Sunday Dare gets Minister of Youth and Sports. After the nomination, there was already no hope of getting a technocrat for the ministry. But if I were to pick from one of the nominees, Sunday Dare would have been in my top 3 picks for the ministry.
Hopefully, he does well.— Solomon Fowowe (@SolomonFowowe) August 21, 2019
Oh, nice one @MBuhari for giving that beret-wearing faux revolutionary the boot. Sunday Dare seems like a good fit. Fingers crossed. #BuhariCabinet

Sunday Dare, Youth and Sports Minister, mbok, Mr Sunday, we wouldn’t want a repeat of the infamous ‘spended’
— Oziomachuku Iroapali (@OziiArbiter) August 21, 2019
In my opinion, Sunday Dare should be posted to technology or communication related ministry…
It doesn’t sit well from NCC boss to youths and sports minister.

Sunday Dare please don’t shame me because for this life, I believe you DIE ?????.
In the name of abeg, perform well.
You were created for this portfolio.— Ndi Kato (@YarKafanchan) August 21, 2019
Now with Sunday Dare……the youth and sport ministry can possibly smell new coffee.
Egbon Olukayode Thomas, time to have you back there.— Omo’Oba Ifedayo Ben (@ifebaba) August 21, 2019
I’m just here wondering what concerns Sunday Dare with ‘Minister of sport’??..Someone with such vast knowledge in the communication field ??..What happens to him assisting pantami in ‘ state’ capacity ..Which kai country be this sef ?♀️#BuhariCabinet

I am extremely pleased with the Minister of Youths and Sports (Sunday Dare). We need his brilliant mind and experience over the years in other sectors to bring about the much needed lasting positive changes in Nigeria comatose sports industry.
Let’s get to work!— olawole (@woleainajnr) August 21, 2019
Sunday Dare taking over the youth and sports ministry sounds good to the ears. Hopefully, he will be able to effect huge changes and transformation that the ministry cries for unlike the embarrassingly incompetent predecessor. #NextLevelCabinet #MinisterialInauguration

Sunday Dare is another misplaced portfolio, besides showing good knowledgeof the industry during screening, he was also a director in NCC, whch means he can hit the ground running..Pantami, however good he is, will still have to learn on the job. Time we dont have. #BuhariCabinet
