If you’ve never received wrong call from Hausa person, are you a Nigerian? Adekunle Gold asks, Twitter reacts
If you live in the southern part of Nigeria, own a mobile phone and you have never received a call from a strange number speaking Hausa immediately after you pick the call, then we may need to truly question your citizenship.
It doesn’t stop there, when you announce to the caller that he/she has called a wrong number, be ready for what is about to hit you, your phone battery may be drained for the rest of that day with calls from that same caller you just told he/she may have dialed a wrong number.
You are not alone, don’t feel frustrated, it looks like it’s a confirmation that you are a true citizen of Nigeria, at least a tweet from Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has shown that a majority of Nigerian phone users have had the experience and are still experiencing it.
The best way many people have devised to handle the disturbance is to ignore the calls.
Adekunle Gold took to his verified Twitter page to ask those who have never got such call before if they are truly Nigerians.
He wrote:
If you’ve never received a wrong call from a Hausa person before, are you even Nigerian?
Netizens have camped in the comment section of Adekunle Gold’s whimsical tweet to share their hilarious experiences with Hausa callers.

…..It did not end there.. He kept on calling I refused to answer the call. After several calls I decided to pick up the call and instead of telling him it was a wrong number I said. “assalamualaikum”… ????hey God!…..

That’s how they do..you don’t even get the chance to tell them it’s a wrong number. As soon as I hear them speaking I just hang up and hope they don’t call back ?

Even if you tell them they’ve called mortuary to scare them not to call back, they will still call back, it’s as if they shared my number among them, per day atleast 2calls from them.

There was a day I even called @MTN180 out of annoyance asking them if a malam is sharing my with me? I tire for Hausa calling me and when I dialled num sometimes, an hausa woman or man would picked it up..

Asalamu alekum isn’t a bad word anyways, it simply means peace be unto you, wait till you hear from those ones who can’t speak English, even when you tell them it’s a wrong number they’ll keep speaking hausa to you… So annoying ??

Some Twitter users have, however, said in the north, they also get a lot of wrong calls from Yoruba people.
They tweeted:
