I’M SORRY! 31-year-old gardener jailed 14 years for raping eight-year-old girl in Lagos
Tony Joshua, a gardener, was on Monday sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, for defiling an 8-year-old minor.
Joshua, 31, a resident of No. 15, Oluwalogbon St., Iba, Lagos, who was arraigned on a charge of defilement, pleaded guilty to the charge.
“I am sorry for what I had done and I promise not to do it again, have mercy on me,’’ he said
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule Amzat, convicted Joshua to 14 years imprisonment without any option of fine
Earlier, the convict had pleaded guilty to the charge which violates Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015..
The prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the incident was reported at Ilupeju Police Station on April 17, by the victim’s mother.
Emuerhi said that the victim, an 8-year-old girl, complained to her mother who had earlier dropped her at her neighbour’s house.
“When she was taken to the hospital for treatment, the doctor confirmed that she had been defiled,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the victim told her mother that the accused lured her to a place and forcefully defiled her.
He said the accused took advantage of a minor who is not capable of giving a valid consent to sexual intercourse. (NAN)
