Oluwaseun Ezekiel

The management of the University College Hospital, Ibadan has said that a patient, Oluwaseun Ezekiel, who died in their hospital from cardiac failure was not properly managed from the previous hospital she was patronising.

UCH rejected the “Death Trap” label from the family and said the patient had been sick since 2014.

“The patient had been ill since 2014 with poor compliance to medications and presented with Cardiogenic shock without oxygen from the referral hospital.”

UCH said the online outburst by a relative of the deceased was unduly emotional, sensational, misinformed and misguided and only tried to whip up sentiments.

Reacting to the part where the aggrieved relative said that the cashier refused to attend to them because he was eating a bowl of Amala.

UCH said,

“That a staff was eating so early into a new day had nothing to do with the service rendered to Seun because treatment already was ongoing before payment was made.

The emergency room doctors- Registrars, Senior Registrars and the TWO Consultants (including) a Senior Cardiologist who saw the patient were not known to the writer because be couldn’t distinguish one from the other.

“UCH has the best Cardiologist and Cath Lab in the country as at today. Any wonder why Seun was referred to us for proper and excellent care.”

“Our attention has been drawn to the trending death of one of our patients, Oluwaseun Ezekiel Female, 24years who was referred to our Facility from a hospital in Ikorodu after being managed unsuccessfully for FOUR YEARS.

“The writer of the trending story was unduly emotional, sensational, misinformed and misguided. He only tried to whip up sentiments.

“The patient had been ill since 2014 with poor compliance to medications and presented with Cardiogenic shock without oxygen from the referral hospital.

“Resuscitation was commenced within five minutes of arrival without waiting for any payment as this is our routine practice.

“Late Oluwaseun was given the best medical service that she required when she was brought in.

“We won’t like to go into details of her condition when she was brought in because of the Doctor-Patient unwritten confidential relationship.

“That a staff was eating so early into a new day had nothing to do with the service rendered to Seun because treatment already was ongoing before payment was made.

“The emergency room doctors- Registrars, Senior Registrars and the TWO Consultants (including) a Senior Cardiologist who saw the patient were not known to the writer because be couldn’t distinguish one from the other. Besides, the conclusion that the patient would only benefit from Cardiopulmonary Transplant was also unknown to the writer and any attempt to cast aspersions on the excellent clinical practices at the University College Hospital, Ibadan by a relation who is not fully informed is rather unfortunate.

“UCH has the best Cardiologist and Cath Lab in the country as at today. Any wonder why Seun was referred to us for proper and excellent care.

“It’s so unfortunate that Seun passed on but it should be noted that her death has nothing to do with the excellent medical service given to her within the short space of time she spent alive in our Hospital.

Thanks.
