The love of a mother has been repaid after her son, who spent 12 years in a coma after a car crash, suddenly wakes up.

The incident happened in Shouguang in eastern China.

Wang Shuboa suffered catastrophic injuries in the 2006 accident, which happened when he was 36. His mom, Wei Mingying, worked round the clock for 12 years nursing him and hoping he wakes up.

And when he eventually did, 75-year-old Mingying was at his side. The loving mom spent all her savings on her son’s treatment and told Chinese media that she went for a month without eating.

According to The SUN, Mingying is now £13,000 in debt after as a result of huge medical bills.

Tearful Wei was at Wang’s side when he opened his eyes, having spent years rising at 5 am to wash, feed and tend to him.

His father died when he was young, meaning Wei was responsible for caring for him.

Although he is unable to speak, he has exchanged smiles with his mother and she is optimistic that he can make a recovery.

She told Beijing News:

“I am just overjoyed. I hope he will make a full recovery.

“I will never give up on him.”

Her devotion has been widely praised in China.

Writing on micro-blogging site Weibo, the Daily Mail writes, one person posted:
