#PoliceBrutality: Family, friends breakdown in tears as Kolade Johnson is buried at Atan cemetery [Video]
Kolade Johnson, the 36-year-old football fan shot dead by police on Sunday, March 31 has been buried amidst tears from family members, friends, and sympathisers.
He was buried on Thursday at Atan Cemetery in Yaba area of Lagos.
WuzupNaija reports that Kolade was killed on Sunday, March 31 close to a football viewing after being hit by a stray bullet fired by police officers during a raid in his neighbourhood in Lagos. The police officers were said to have fled the scene after the incident.
Before his remains were laid to rest at the Atan cemetery, family members, friends, and community members had earlier paid their last respect as his casket was displayed at Mangoro area along Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Lagos.
A family member of the deceased who identified himself as Awakan Boluwade, in an interview with WuzupNaija said the family didn’t receive any support from the government.
“The family handled all the expenses incurred throughout the period his remains were kept at the morgue, nothing from the government, though the police and government representatives visited the family. Though we are not begging for money, tthe government didn’t do anything to assist the family.”
