10 die in Ilorin-Ogbomoso road accident
A ghastly motor accident which occurred on Ilorin/Ogbomoso road on Sunday claimed ten lives including nine adults and a two-year-old baby.
It was gathered that none of the occupants of the two vehicles involved in the accident survived the incident.
The accident occurred at the Ilorin Airport area along Ilorin-Ogbomoso road in the Kwara State capital.
The accident involved two vehicles, a Toyota Camry with a Lagos registration number- FKJ-54-CE, and a Mazda 323 with registration number Kwara LRN-474 XA, with seven passengers on board.
Eye witness account said that the driver of the Toyota Camry with two passengers was coming from the Ilorin Airport when it had a head-on collision with the Mazda car.
It was gathered that the driver of the Camry car was badly injured and rescued alive but later died on the way to the hospital.
An eye-witness, Mustapha Oniyangi explained that the accident occurred when the driver of the Camry lost control due to over-speeding hit the Mazda car which was heading to Ilorin from Ogbomoso.
Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who came to the scene tried their efforts to rescue some of the victims of the accident but their efforts could not yield success.
The corpses of the victims were evacuated by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ilorin and deposited at the Ilorin General Hospital’s morgue.
The state FRSC sector commander, Mr. C.C. Owoade, who confirmed the report, said that the accident occurred as a result of a head-on collision between the two vehicles, adding that none of the people involved survived.
