10 Nollywood stars who delved into politics

Nollywood actors and actresses are good at what they do, acting. That is why they have been able to steal the hearts of their viewers.

Some of them have been able to reach the peak of their careers and even surpass it by crossing into politics.

Here are 10 Nollywood actors who have branched into politics.

1.Richard Mofe Damijo, popularly known as RMD is the former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, Nigeria. The 55-year-old won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2005.

2. Bob Manuel Udokwu is a former the Senior Special Adviser on Creative Media to Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi. In 2014, Bob-Manuel declared his intention to contest in the 2015 general elections into Anambra State House of Assembly to represent Idemili North constituency.

3. Desmond Elliot, a nollywood actor and graduate of Economics from the Lagos State University, contested and won a seat in the Lagos State House of Representatives in the 2015 general elections.

4. Kate Henshaw, one of the most talented actresses in Nollywood ran unsuccessfully for a Peoples Democratic Party ticket to contest for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives for Calabar Munical/Odukpani Federal Constituency in 2014. She was later appointed as Special Adviser to the Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade. She is the Special Adviser-Liason, Lagos.

5. Nkiru Sylvanus was the Special Adviser to Imo State Governor until she was sacked from office. It is not clear if she wants to get back to the screen or continue with her political other assignments.

6. Towards the 2015 General elections, popular hip-hop artiste, Abolore Akande aka “9ice”, lost in his bid for a seat in the House of Representative for Ogbomosjo North/South and Orire Federal Constituency. He lost out to Prince Akeem Oyewumi, son of the Soun of Ogbomoso at the All Progressives Congress party primary in Oyo state.

7. Comedian Julius Agwu declared his intentions to run for the governorship post of Rivers State in 2015. Needless to say, he didn’t really make much of an impact with that bid.

8. Tony Muonagor, popularly called Tony One week delved into politics some years ago he won a seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly in 2011. He re-contested but lost the seat in 2015. He is known for his hit songs ‘Onwa December’ and ‘Everybody Gyrate. Hope he returns.

9. Toyin Adegbola, popularly known as Ajoke Asewo To Re Mecca got a political appointment from the Osun State government in 2013 when she was made a member of the board of Osun State Arts and Culture Council. She is a matriarch in the Nollywood industry as she has been around for over 31 years as an actress.

 

10. Okey Bakassi worked as the Senior Special Adviser on Entertainment Matters to the past Imo state Governor, Ikedi Ohakim.
