Following the security alert raised by the United States consulate on Tuesday about possible terrorist attacks in Lagos on Eid public holiday scheduled for Wednesday, here are some signs to watch out for to identify a potential terrorist.
If it is a suicide bomber, the Nigerian police force says the person would usually demonstrate the following traits an habits:
- Be alone and nervous.
- Wear loose or bulky clothing, inappropriate for weather.
- Would appear to be unaware of the surroundings.
- Rigid mid-section. May indicate hidden rifle or bomb.
- Tightened hands or hands kept in pockets. May indicate clenching a detonation device.
Other sources add the following signs to check out for:
– Exaggerated yawning as the individual approached the target
– Excessive fidgeting, clock watching, head-turning, shuffling feet, leg shaking
– Excessive perspiration inconsistent with the environment
– Face pale from recent shaving of beard
If it is a car bomb, the driver May:
- Drive erratically; drive too slow or too fast.
- Ignore orders to stop or try to circumvent a security checkpoint.
- Attempt to manoeuver too close to friendly assets.
- Look unusual.
- Wear inappropriate dress for the environment
