2019 AFCON: We don’t fear you, Tanzania head coach, Amuneke, tells Nigeria, others

Tanzania head coach Emmanuel Amuneke is upbeat that his side will make a big impact at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Amuneke, who was part of Nigeria’s squad that conquered the continent at Tunisia ’94, made history by guiding the Taifa Stars to qualify for the competition after a 39-year absence.

He told ESPN that his Taiga Stars will not fear any big names in African football.

The East Africans finished in the second position in Group L during the qualifying series after thrashing table toppers Uganda 3-0 on the final day.

Tanzania have been placed in Pot D ahead of the draw ceremony for the competition which will hold in Cairo on Friday and faced the prospect of being pooled in the same group with some of the continent’s top guns, including Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Amuneke, who was crowned the best footballer in Africa in 1994, insists his side will continue to work hard in the build-up to the tournament.

“I am a professional, and it does not matter even if I am playing against my mother or my late father; I want to win,” the 48-year-old told ESPN.

“And we cannot be afraid of anybody; otherwise we should not be among the 24 teams at the tournament. But we will continue to work hard, to improve, to learn from our mistakes and try to do better.”
