The Delta State Police Command is holding a 27-year-old father of two, Moses Akpokinovo, for allegedly raping his seven-year-old niece.

Reports said the seven years old was on a visit to his house.

The suspect, whose wife is currently heavily pregnant, blamed the devil for his action and that he did not know what led him into it.

WuzupNigeria gathered that the incident occurred at the residence of the suspect in Makolomi, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

“The suspect, whose wife is currently heavily pregnant, blamed the devil for his action, saying he did not know what led him to it,” a source said.

“The mother of the victim raised the alarm when she discovered the damage done to her daughter when she returned home from the residence of the suspect, who is her relative.

“The girl has already started showing signs of Vesicovaginal Fistula and is currently receiving attention at a hospital for the damage done, while the suspect is being detained at the Ughelli Police Station.”

Meanwhile, a human rights group, My Right, My Bond, has threatened to drag the police before a court if they fail to properly investigate and prosecute the suspect.

The group stated that it had it on good authority that the suspect was pleading for the matter to be settled out of court.

The Executive Director of the group, Ufuoma Egbe, said,

“Our attention has been drawn to a dastardly act by one Moses Akpokinovo, whom we gathered allegedly abducted and raped a little girl of seven years.

“According to reports made available to us, the incident has ruptured and damaged the private parts of the little girl and we believe this will further affect her psychological countenance for the rest of her life.

“Though we are aware that the matter is currently before the police and pending investigation, we want the police to do a thorough investigation on the matter and charge the suspect as required by law. Anything short of this, we will not only take up the matter as a rights group, but also drag the police to court for compounding felony.”
