4 things affecting president Buhari’s reputation among Nigerians
Before the 2014 General Elections in Nigeria, many Nigerians believe the ultimate solution to the country’s problem is the experience that will be brought in by President Muhammadu Buhari in to governance.
While there were people who held then that the challenges in the country transcends any one persons experience, others preach that there are quick fixes that would be employed by a new one-time military ruler before a holistic repair would follow.
However, about six months after the change in power, impatient Nigerians began finding fault with the administration. While opinions are very divided about the performance of the government led by the 73-year-old, here are some of the moments that have affected people’s view of the president’s performance so far.
1. He took six months to select ministers. Many people expected that the Buhari will hit the ground running, unfortunately, the president decided to take his time to set up his cabinet. Nigerians were willing to overlook the time it took, until the ministers were unveiled and they found some they consider to be below par.
A Responsible NASS would have challenged Buhari’s six months with no minister. That was the making of a Dictator” #RiseUpNASS

2. His seemingly lackadaisical attitude to the falling economy is not attracting investors, rather investors already on ground are worried that the president is ignoring the crisis. The concerns of investors and experts started growing when the president refused to devalue the naira, under the pretext that he doesn’t want to kill it.
3. “The other room” saga got a lot of Nigerians dissapointed with president Buhari. In October, the first lady, Aisha told the BBC that she may not support a second term bid for her husband, suggesting that his government had been hijacked and he had lost control. But Buhari who was on a state visit to Germany then reacted to the interview saying his wife belongs to the room. The comment got Nigerians and folks around the world considering him a male chauvinist of some sort.

4. Budget padding issue. In January, the Senate had rejected the 2016 budget presented to it by the president. The reason was that many extraneous materials and repetitions were found int the document. This led to a lot of back and forth transfer of the document between the legislature and the executives until the issue was resolved. The issue cast a heavy shadow on the anti corruption stance of the president.
