73-year-old carpenter bags 10-year jail term for defiling minor
A septuagenarian Ibrahim Ali has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuwan Nama, Jos, Plateau State, for defiling a 12-year-old girl.
The judge, Lawal Suleiman, sentenced the 73-year-old carpenter, who pleaded guilty to a count charge of defilement.
Suleiman, however, gave the convict an option of N500, 000 fine and six months’ imprisonment.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Monday Dabit, told the court that the defendant lured the girl into his room and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
Dabit said that the case was reported on July 2 by one Zainab Said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 207 of the Penal Code, Law of Northern Nigeria.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ali had begged the court for leniency, blaming the crime on Devil.
