Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to sack government-recognised chiefs and leaders in the Andoni Local Government Area where three expatriates were abducted a few days ago.

The governor issued a three-day ultimatum to the chiefs and leaders in the area to ensure the immediate release of the kidnapped expatriates, who are employees of Raffoul Nigeria Limited.

The ultimatum given to the chiefs and leaders was contained in a statement on Saturday signed by the Special Assistant to Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu.

Wike, according to the statement, said communities must take measures to secure contractors and workers executing projects for them.

He cautioned that he would not hesitate to cancel the Andoni aspect of the Unity Road project if the three expatriates abducted by Andoni youths were not released at the expiration on the ultimatum.

The statement read in part,

“Governor Wike said failure to secure the release of the three expatriates kidnapped by Andoni youths at the expiration of the ultimatum, he will formally withdraw the recognition of all government recognised chiefs in the local government area and cancel the Andoni aspect of the Unity road project.”

Wike further stated that same sanctions would be meted out to other communities where chiefs and leaders allow project contractors and workers to be kidnapped by community youths.
