An Adamawa kidnap Kingpin who went to collect N20,000 ransom payment from a businessman, allegedly to save his hospitalized son in need of a blood transfusion, without any cares he could be caught was on Wednesday arraigned at a Yola high court.

Adamawa State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Barrister Afraimu Jingi, sought the relief of the court, pursuant to section 111(b) Adamawa State Criminal justice Law to commence trial of the kidnap suspect.

Mohammed Goni, the kidnap suspect had fallen on hard times, but unlike most Nigerians going through tough times, Goni a notorious kidnapper terrorizing Gombi and Song local government areas of the state had hoped to get out of his difficulty by demanding, N500,000 ransom payment from an Igbo businessman, Innocent Ucheni.

Goni had threatened Innocent with kidnap if he failed to get him the money he was asking from him.

The kidnap suspect was caught after allegedly receiving N20,000 ransom payment from the businessman.

Without any cares that he may be entering into a trap, Goni had gone to Uchen’s shop to collect the said N20,000.

It was learnt that Mohammed was desperately in need of money to save the life of one of his hospitalized son, in dire need of blood transfusion

“It was sometime in January 2020 laid on his sickbed between life and death, desperately in need of a blood transfusion.”

The father, known and feared in his community, over suspicion of belonging to a criminal ring had allegedly called one Innocent Ucheni, an Igbo businessman on the phone and asked him to give him N500,000 or else be kidnapped.

Ucheni pleaded that the times were tough and he could only afford to give Goni N10,000 and not the N500,000 he had demanded.

That evening Goni, later spoke with Ucheni but this time Ucheni said he could only source N20,000 during their telephone exchanges.

Goni it was furthermore revealed had instructed Ucheni on where to keep the ransom but the trader refused and instead urged Goni to come get the ransom at his shop which Goni did and in the process was caught by DSS officials after collecting the N20,000 from the Igbo trader.

Goni was also charged with intent to kidnap in the second count read out against him for allegedly calling one Alhaji Hussaini Garba to give him N100,000 threatening that if the said sum was not paid the man will be kidnapped.

Jingi, who spoke with journalists after instituting the case for the trial of one other suspect, Mohammed Abubakar, by the state for kidnapping, before Justice Abdulaaziz Waziri, the trial judge handling both cases said the state government is considering designating a single court to try all kidnap cases.

He said, “The state is eager to see that these suspects arrested for kidnapping are prosecuted in record time so that the public will know that the state is in fact eager to rid the state of kidnappers.”
