Aisha Buhari attacked for doing this to a man in Brussels (Photo)
The First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Aisha Buhari has come under severe attack on social media, following the emergence of a photo that showed her shaking hands with a man in Brussels, Belgium.
According to reports, those who attacked Aisha are some northern fundamentalists and puritans who deemed the act of shacking hands against the ethics of the Islamic religion.
It should be noted that a large section of the lslamic women from the northern part of the country are opposed to shaking hands with men other than their husbands. The action is adjudged flirtatious especially when taken by married women.
Some of the commenters defended the seemingly innocent handshake but they were outrightly outnumbered.
The Nigerian First Lady has vastly grown in popularity following her controversial BBC Hausa Service interview.
She was honoured in Europe, by the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign & European Affairs, Minister Didier Reynders, at the African Women’s Forum on “Women’s Role in Global Security”.
