Ajegunle killing

An eyewitness, who was at Akpiri street in Ajegunle area of Lagos state on Saturday morning when police officers shot dead 20-year-old Ada Ifeanyi, has said the Police officers acted like they were hired to kill the girl and her boyfriend, Emmanuel.

The man identified as Festus Williams said he was in front of his house around 6am on Saturday when he saw the car driving into Akpiri street and the policemen giving it a hot chase with a motorcycle.

He said:

“When I woke up that morning around 6am, I was standing outside my compound when the incident happened around 6:10am.

“I just saw the car coming and the guy was driving very rough trying to avoid the bike, before we knew what was happening, the policeman parked beside the car, brought out a gun and shot the girl while she was running away after coming out of the car.

“The girl was trying to run into a nearby compound when the bike man stopped, brought out his gun and shot the girl. The bullet also hit the guy’s head.

“We saw the two policemen as they were trying to abscond after shooting the girl, people around shouted you don kill person, but we couldn’t move close to them because the officer was holding a gun.”

Williams added that the policemen drove off from the scene immediately after shooting the girl, while the guy drove himself to the hospital.

He said:

“We dont know what led to the chase, but we believe if it was a robbery case they would have run after the lady and apprehend her since she was not far from them, but it looks like they were sent to kill the girl or the guy.

“When the girl came down from the car, they parked their bike, at that point they could have easily arrested her, but for them to bring out a gun and shoot the girl at a very close range it makes it look like they were hired to kill them.”
