Alasoadura mourns ex-NNPC chief



The Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Omotayo Alasoadura, has expressed grief over the death of Maikanti Baru, former Group Managing Director, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Alasoadura expressed grief in a statement by his media aide, Dayo Joseph, on Saturday in Akure.

Baru died on Friday in an Abuja hospital after a brief sickness.

The minister said that Baru distinguished himself in his chosen career as an engineer and the 18th group managing director of NNPC.

He prayed to God to comfort the deceased family and give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Alasoadura added that Allah should grant the deceased, a place in Al-Jannah.

Newsmen report that Baru, who hails from Bauchi State was just two months away from his 61st birthday at the time of his death.

Late Baru was an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, where he got a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, in 1982.

He was appointed the NNPC GMD in 2016 and retired after he turned 60 in 2019.
