Allow young ones get married when they start having sexual urges, TVC presenter advises

TV presenter, Akashat Ny’mat, has opined that young people should be allowed or encouraged to get married once they start having sexual urges.

The “Your view” presenter said that is the best alternative adding that the act is not necessarily ‘Islamic’.

Ny’mat said this while reacting to the viral pre-wedding photos of a very young couple, aged 17 and 15.

In her words,

“The act is not necessarily ‘Islamic’. But when sexual urges start to come, one of the best alternatives is to allow them get married.

“If my daughter wants to marry at a young age, I would first have the necessary conversations with her to see if it is truly what she wants and also ensure that she is fit to some extent, but I wouldn’t stop her”.

Meanwhile, a  co-presenter, Mariam Longe, said she does not support teenagers getting married or a younger child getting married to an elderly spouse.

“Personally, I do not support teenagers getting married or a younger child getting married to an elderly spouse. But I’m not surprised with this story because of where I grew up. My grandma got married at 14 and my mum at 19,” she said.

The presenter’s statement has since generated criticisms as many asked if If marriage is the answer to sexual urge.
