AMBROSE ALLI UNIVERSITY MASSACRE! Female NYSC member who was visiting friends among fatalities

Published

A National Youth Service Corps member, Ugwi Mary Martha, was on Wednesday identified as one of the deceased in the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma cult killings.

WuzupNaija had earlier today reported that some suspected had stormed a graduation party at a bar at Judges quarters, Ekpoma and shot dead at least 10 people after a fight broke out between one of their members and a party attendee.

Reports have, however, claimed Martha, an NYSC member serving in Niger State, was one of the fatalities.

Martha, a Banking and Finance graduate of the institution, was visiting a friend who just graduated when she was killed.

When contacted, the institution’s Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Don Akhilomen, put the casualty figure at five, adding that one of the victims, identified as Jerry Omobude, was an alumnus of the university.

Akhilomen said,

“What we heard is very far from 10 (casualties). The maximum I heard was it was four or five and certainly not 10. But the police will be in a better position to give official information on this matter.”

When asked if the school could confirm that the deceased were students of the university, he stated, “It is when their identities become clear that we would know whether they were students of our school.

“But I know of one (Omobude) who was a graduate of our university. He graduated last year; he was a  parliamentarian on campus.”

The dean, however, noted that the management of the institution had cautioned its students against organising parties for security reasons.

“In fact, a department whose students had a wild jubilation faced disciplinary actions and that was communicated, even before this incident, to serve as a deterrent to others,” he added.
