American forensic researcher praises EFCC over Mompha arrest, hopes Hushpuppi is next

Gar Warner, an American computer forensic researcher on malware and social network of Criminals at the University of Alabama, has lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] for arresting the Chief Executive Officer [CEO] of Mompha Bureau de Change, Ismaila Mustapha, over alleged cybercrimes.

WuzupNigeria reports that the EFCC had confirmed arrest of Mustapha, better known as Mompha, on October 22. And Warner had hours after the confirmation taken to Twitter to express joy at the arrest.

He alleged that Mompha is in the 10 criminals involved in Business Email Compromise [BEC] scam/crime.

Warner suggested that Malaysia-based Nigerian, Ray Hushpuppi. He prayed that the EFCC arrests Hushpuppi next.

The researcher, while reacting on a reply on his tweets, dismissed suggestions that calling BEC a West African crime is a stereotype.

He wrote,

If you aren’t a big follower of West African crime, you won’t understand how HUGE this news is! #Mompha is a “Top Ten” #BEC (Business Email Compromise) scammer/criminal who mostly hides with his money in Dubai. Well done, @officialEFCC!
