Angry mob attempt to lynch woman who tried committing suicide, multiple murder in Abuja


A Nigerian woman has reportedly been saved from the anger of a mob after she attempted to kill herself and some of her neighbours.

An eyewitness, Best Green, who shared details of the incident on Twitter, said the woman had intentional set a gas to explode in her room at Zone B, Apo Settlement in Abuja.

According to Best Green, after the failed suicide attempt a mob attacked the woman, saying she deserved to die for trying to kill herself alongside others.

He wrote,

The woman in the picture, tried to commit suicide by setting off Explosion with a gas cylinder in her room, this morning in Abuja. Please be safe & check on friends and family.

You can call him the Hero!!! He is the policeman, who saved the woman who attempted suicide this morning, from being killed by the angry mob, who says she deserves to die for attempting to kill others, along with herself!!

Some Twitter users have expressed anger at the woman for putting her innocent neighbours in harm’s way while trying to kill herself.

Police inspector kills motorcyclist in Imo



A 27-year-old man has been allegedly shot dead by a policeman inspector at Banana Junction in Amaifeke town near Orlu in Imo State.

The officer was in a team of policemen who mounted roadblock in that area.

It was gathered they were using the opportunity to enforce the wearing of facemask ordered by the State Government to curb the spread of COVID-19 when the incident occurred.

The unidentified deceased, who hailed from the nearby Okporo community, was carrying a passenger and not putting on a facemask when the Inspector stopped him.

According to sources at the scene of the incident, the man was asked to pay some amount of money before he could go with his motorcycle.

But the deceased was said to have insisted that he would not pay because others who did not wear facemasks were allowed to go without their bikes being impounded.

“When this argument was going on, I don’t know what happened that led the inspector to shoot him at close range and the man died instantly, forcing the policemen to enter their vehicle and run away,” an eyewitness said.

The incident caused unrest in the town as residents trooped out to protest the killing.

It was gathered that policemen manning Orlu council Headquarters quickly removed their uniforms and disguised as civilians.

Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinmoyede, confirmed the incident to The Nation on phone, saying one of the officers was matcheted.

The CP said:

“The situation is being managed. It is true that a policeman killed a man but the situation is not out of control. People whose loved one was killed have a right to be angry. One of the policemen was also macheted and he is in a hospital as we speak.

“I have told all the parties to remain calm.The situation will be handled. I have instructed the Area Commander to ensure that normalcy is returned. Justice will be served in the matter.”

Akinmoyede assured that the trigger- happy inspector and all the persons involved in the incident would be arrested and prosecuted.

Police officer kills okada rider for not wearing face mask in Imo (graphic photos)



A motorcycle rider popularly Okada man has allegedly been shot dead by a police officer around Banana junction in Orlu, Imo state today July 9.

According to reports, the Okada man had refused to stop after the policeman had stopped him for not wearing a face mas, this led to an altercation between them after the Okada man allegedly refused to give a N50 bribe.

Residents and youths in the area are now demanding justice for the death of the unidentified Okada rider.

Police command spokesperson in Imo state is yet to comment on the incident.

Girl, 7, reports grandparents to police in Ogun, accuses them of torturing her with hot rubber 



A seven-year-old girl has dragged her grandparents to the police in Ogun State, accusing them of emotional and physical abuse.

The child, who is an orphan, alleged that the grandparents, 57-year-old Joseph Akporugo and his wife, Janet, accused her of killing her father through witchcraft.

She added that as punishment they would light rubber materials and use same to burn different parts of her body.

On Tuesday, she summoned the courage, walked up to a policeman who lives on the same street with her in Awa-Ijebu area of Ogun State, and narrated how she was being maltreated and abused.

The duo were consequently arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for maltreating the orphan.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim is Akporugo’s granddaughter, and her ordeal began when her father died and she was accused of killing him through witchcraft.

The abuse began when she started living with her grandfather and his wife since her biological father’s demise.

Describing the abuse she had been subjected to, the child, who spoke in Yoruba, said:

“They beat me every day, accusing me of being a witch.

“These wounds (pointing to her stomach) were inflicted on me by them. They put a rubber on the fire and placed it on my stomach and other parts of my body.”

A spokesman for Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said:

“The Constable she reported to took her to Awa-Ijebu Police Station where the case was incidented.

“The DPO, CSP Adewalehinmi, subsequently detailed detectives to the couple’s house and they were promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, the couple were unable to justify their devilish maltreatment of the innocent little girl.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered a proper investigation into the case with a view to diligently prosecuting the suspects.”
