Arsenal set Aubameyang transfer price, eye Chelsea star Willian

Aubameyang BArcelona

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is preparing to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer transfer window after the club set an asking price of £30million for the Gabon international. However, the Gunners are also considering replacing him with Chelsea winger Willian who will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Aubameyang will enter the final 12 months of his contract in the summer and Arsenal face the decision of whether to agree to a new contract, try to sell the player this summer, or risk extending talks with the possibility that he may leave for nothing in the future.

However, according to The Sun, Aubameyang has rebuffed all of the club’s efforts to extend his current deal.

Because of this Arsenal are set to sell the striker in the next window rather than lose him on a free next year.

It will hard for Arsenal to replace the in-form striker as Aubameyang’s form has been one of the few positives for the club this season.

Arsenal are currently ninth in the table and are eight-points off fourth-placed Chelsea, however, Aubameyang has still managed to score 20 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions.

The Gunners would have originally hoped to get around £60m for Aubameyang but in the current market, they have had to lower their demands due to the financial impact on teams due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Barcelona and Chelsea are both interested in Aubameyang, who is seeking Champions League football next season.

The Catalan giants are in the market for a goal scorer as they are seeking a replacement for 33-year-old Luis Suarez.

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is looking to add another striker to his squad to provide competition for Tammy Abraham.

Arsenal would prefer to see Aubameyang leave the Premier League but their hand might be forced by whoever is willing to meet their asking price.

As for his replacement, the Gunners are considering Chelsea winger Willian.

The Brazilian, who will turn 32 in August, will be a free agent at the end of the season but does come with high wage demands.

Willian’s talks with Chelsea stalled after the club refused to meet his demands of a three-year contract on his current £120,000-a-week salary – the Blues were only willing to offer him a two-year deal.

Arsenal are reluctant to commit themselves to such a long-term contract, given the player’s age, but are hoping his desire to stay in London would see him lower his wage demands.

And this may be a possibility as Willian’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has a good relationship with the Gunners.

Not only does he also represent the club’s technical director Edu, but he also negotiated the transfers of David Luiz last summer and Cedric Soares’ loan deal in January.

Liverpool errors in loss to Arsenal were too big to overcome – Klopp

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said his side’s errors in their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Wednesday night were simply too big to come back from, despite his side having dominated the game.

Having gone a goal down in the 20th minute, Arsenal pounced on a clumsy back pass from defender Virgil Van Dijk and later a miskicked ball out from keeper Alisson to score twice, ending the Reds’ hopes of breaking the record point tally for a Premier League season.

“When you make these kinds of mistakes you cannot win a football game – or you need to be really lucky to win a football game. We were not lucky today. All the mistakes were too big,” Klopp told reporters after the match.

“Scoring and going 1-0 up, and then taking kind of a break. We’re all humans and maybe it’s just a misjudgement of the situation,” he said.

Since winning the title with seven games to spare, Liverpool have dropped eight points in five games. Prior to that they had dropped only seven points all season.

“I’m disappointed with the result of course,” Klopp said.

“The numbers I saw was 24-3 (shots on goal), 70% to 30% possession, all for us – that’s exceptional. But the result is the truth, and we accept that and we are responsible for that result.”

“We have to make sure things like this will not happen again,” he said.

Liverpool have 93 points and can stretch that to 99 if they win at home to Chelsea and beat Newcastle away in their last two games. Manchester City notched a record 100 points for a season in 2017-18.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd: Pogba set to sign five-year deal

Manchester United expect to confirm a contract extension for Paul Pogba at the end of the season, the UK Metro reports.

Pogba is believed to be close to agreeing to terms on a new five-year deal with the Red Devils.

The France midfielder has one year left on the five-year deal he signed in 2016, when he returned to Old Trafford from Juventus, although United have a 12-month extension clause which they would have triggered.

Pogba has requested to leave United on two separate occasions since he rejoined and looked destined to quit in 2018 after falling out with Jose Mourinho.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival improved United’s chances of keeping Pogba.
