Artisan beaten mercilessly for calling out local govt chairman on Facebook over N75,000 debt [Video]
The social media has no doubt become a great platform for buying, selling, social and economic connection and also beaming light on hidden rots in the society.
It is why many business owners, small, medium and large scale businesses, have been taking advantage of the platform to promote their service. Aside from its economic benefits, social media also offers advocacy power by giving voice to the voiceless and unheard members of the society.
This may have informed why a local artisan in Akwa Ibom State who probably had exhausted all available channels to get paid for a service he allegedly rendered to the Chairman of Abak local government in the State decided it was only the social media that could solve his problem.
The yet-to-be-identified man who reportedly took to Facebook to call out the local government chairman for owing him N75,000 got more than he bargained for.
It was gathered that the LG boss, who may have felt embarrassed by the artisan’s action, allegedly ordered his aides to apprehend the artisan and give him the beating of his life.
A Twitter user, Alvin Ikpe, shared a video of the artisan being assaulted on the micro-blogging site.
Ikpe wrote via his handle @Alvinattor:
“Artisan beaten mercilessly for simply asking the chairman of Abak LGA in Akwa Ibom State for the N75,000 he’s being owed for a job he did. Justice is demanded for this man.”
Since the video emerged on social media, human rights activists and groups have been calling for an investigation into the matter, as some have also offered to take up the case to ensure the artisan gets justice.
