Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, on Tuesday, brought the popular North London rivalry to fore on social media after declaring every goal he scored against Tottenham Hotspurs as his favourite in the English Premier League.

The 32-year-old Spaniard joined Arsenal in September 2003 at the age of 16 before returning to Barcelona in 2011. The Gunners signed him from La Masia, Barcelona’s youth academy and his return to Barcelona in 2011 after eight years in London.

He returned to London in June 2014 to Chelsea where he won the League Cup and Premier League in his first year. fabregas left Chelsea for Monaco in 2019.

Fabregas took to his verified Twitter page earlier today telling his followers to ask him any question tweeting with the hashtag #AskCesc.

The hashtag is presently trending on Twitter worldwide.

“Of the 50 #PL goals you scored, which was your favourite?” the EPL official Twitter handle asked the Arsenal legend.

He responded:

Fabregas’ comment has caused an uproar on Twitter among football fans.

Arsenal and Tottenham form one of the most heated rivalries in English football, and this seems to have influenced Fabregas’ declaration.

It is not surprising that Fabregas still sees himself as a Gunner after spending almost a decade at the North London club where he grew from a youth player to a senior player and scored most of his career goals. He captained the Gunners for some years before leaving for Barca in 2011.

According to Bleacher Report, the rivalry between Arsenal and Spurs only really started when the Gunners moved from Plumstead in South East London to Highbury in North London. The move created a  local rivalry as the clubs’ stadiums are separated by just four miles.

For decades, Arsenal were the dominant club in North London as the Gunners have had plenty of success against their rivals.

Football fans always look forward to a match between both teams called the North London derby.

For Spurs’ fans, there seems to be no bigger objective for the club every season than beating Arsenal.

Responding to another question on his football idol, Fabregas named Figo and Guardiola.

A fan asked, What was your favourite trophy to win as a player?”

Fabregas:

“It’s got to be the World Cup. I broke my leg playing against Barça a few months before and I struggled and worked very hard to make it so in the end it was very satisfying. Also my 1st Premier League was one of the best feelings/reliefs I’ve ever had.”

On Best Manager he played under:

Impossible to pick one. Wenger, Mourinho, Aragonés, Del Bosque, Tito, Conte, Guardiola… what I’ve learned with all these coaches is better than any coaching course I can ever do in the future.

His take on VAR:

“If it’s used in a well and quick manner but sometimes I just don’t understand certain decisions or why it takes so long when its so clear to see what just happened. Hopefully it will improve but if they use it well, it’s good for football.”

His Best EPL player:

“Mané for me”

Asked if he would have preferred to win the EPL with Arsenal, Cesc said:

“On my first year at @Arsenal I made my debut, trained every single day with the first team and even went to CL trips. I didn’t get a medal but I experienced everything and every single moment on the daily basis with the invincibles so that was close enough for me.”
