Coronavirus: Association of Resident Doctors in Gombe suspend strike
The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) Gombe state has suspended it’s five days old industrial action.
Arising from a congress on Saturday, in Gombe, the chairman of the branch Dr Saidu Alhassan, said it decided to halt it indefinite strike based on consideration of concerned citizens of the state.
He noted that his Association is also considerate of the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Alhassan furthered thanked his members for the unflinching support, as he warned that the Association will not tolerate any form of victimization owing to the success of the strike.
He Explained that:
“The deputy governor panel, consisting of the SSG, Head of Service and other prominent citizens of the state stepped. We saw their commitment to our challenges. As well the effort of the speaker, the chairman of the task force on health have called us to table, in their own words our struggle is genuine and they appealed to Association of Resident Doctors to suspend the strike. In view of that, we are suspending the industrial action additionally due to the pandemic of coronavirus and Gombe people needs a better healthcare delivery system.
“Of course there are myraids of challenges like the issue of salary, upgrade, promotion and poor working condition. We have put that aside putting the people of Gombe state in front and decided to suspend the strike.
“Although there is no specific time when the raised issues must be tackled but we expect the issues to be resolved as soon as possible.”
He added that members of the Association have been appealed to give in their best without fear of victimisation.
You will recall that the strike began since Monday when the Association put down tools owing to the failure of Government to upgrade their salary, promote them over a period of time.
