Following the confirmation of 19 new coronavirus cases in Bauchi, the toll in the state has now risen to 102.

The new cases were confirmed on Thursday at around 10.05pm.

The 19 new cases are the highest in a single day since Bauchi recorded its first index case on March 24th.

The active cases in the state are now 96 while six patients who recovered were also discharged. So far, the state has not recorded any death.

This was contained in the Situation Room Update of the COVID-19 Emergency Operation Center in the Ministry of Health, Bauchi State, made available to journalists on Thursday night.

The Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela, had stated on Wednesday while giving an update of the coronavirus to the Governor at the Government House said the state will face an increase in the number of confirmed cases in the state because of the “explosion” in Kano and Jigawa states.

Tela who is also the Chairman of the Bauchi State Rapid Response Taskforce Committee on COVID19 and Lassa Fever in the state:

“In the next two to three weeks or so, we may have a little bit of explosion because of the relaxation we had in Kano, Jigawa and the rest of them.

“What the Committee is trying to do is to expand the capacity of the beds that we have in Bauchi, Azare and other places and possibly, open up other places in Toro and Ningi.”
