Best graduating student slams Adamu Garba, recounts how he was denied employment at NNPC, PTI

A Nigerian recording artiste based overseas John Oshomah has taken a former presidential aspirant Adamu Garba to the cleaners over his controversial tweets about Nigerians living abroad.

WuzupNigeria reported that Garba has been courting controversies on social media with his posts on polygamy and recently his comment in the ban on issuance of visas to Nigerians by the United States government.

While reacting to the visa ban, he had tweeted on Monday:

Dear Nigerians, Do you know how rich your country is? Look into the resource map attached. If you think they don’t envy you, or don’t want you to hate your country so that they can silently exploit your wealth. Don’t let them Stay here & build your country. Let them grumble

A Twitter user then asked him:

“I’m a graduate of the Geology, after graduation, I went to the Ministry of Solid Minerals to seek the prerequisite for owning a mining license, everything they listed for me was about #15m, excluding my location and processing area, how was I suppose to cope?”

Garba responded:

“Look for investors. You should stop lazying around and build a very robust business plan connected all the dotted supply chain lines. You should do that.”

The response angered Oshomah who took to the comment section of the tweet to slam him, in his reply to the artiste, Garba asked him to leave foreign land and return home.

In a thread of tweets, Oshomah took his time to school Garba and reminded him how the Federal Character and quota system being practises in Nigeria has been killing competence and rewarding mediocrity in the Nigerian public service.

He then narrated how he was denied employment opportunities at the Petroleum Training Institute in Delta State and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) despite being the best graduating student in his set and performing excellently in the recruitment test.

Oshomah said northerners who never took part in the tests were employed.

He wrote:

“Lemme give u a personal account. I will t be speaking for Nigerians . Just myself . 2000 my father died . 2003, my mother sold her rapper and jewelries so I can enroll WAEC and NECO . 2005 December I got admitted into Petroleum Training Institute.

2012 I graduated the best in my class Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Go to my dept in Warri, my name is still up there. No one came close in graduating year of 2012. After graduation, I worked in the Dept till it was time for NYSC. Moved to France at completion.

Through govt scholarship under GEJ. Studied my life out in low and medium voltage electricity distribution. Electrical automation to mention a few . Came back and Petroleum Training Institute was recruiting at the time . Flew to Abuja 3 times to write the exams with my last card at the time. Computer-based test, you see your scores immediately u submit. I passed all cut off. Now here’s the gist. I qualified for and NEVER got interviewed. I was at the civil service commission during the interview phase.

Myself and my HOD then watched Helplessly as your brothers from the north (some of which never took the rigorous exams we were made to go through) strolled in, got interviewed and walked out with employment letters. I’ll never forget the look on my HOD’s face that day.

It gets better, a few months after I was called by an engineer. Core northern Muslim (to be fair he was sad I didn’t get the job) to come to his office. I went cos he’s my friend and we sometimes work together.

He told me and I quote “Mr John Coach please help our new Staff (northern Muslim) with ur lecture notes. Just show him around EEC courses. As a permanent staff his salary should be at least 250k why I took home nada as an intern still after all the schooling in France. That was the day I stopped working.

Unless you want me to curse you sir @adamugarba, you’ll never ask me to come back home. Plus come back and die by ur nonfunctional government who sees everyone who calls their BS out as treasonous? I am HOME. I’ve never felt this secure my entire life .

Go to PTI in Warri Delta state. Go to Elect Elect dept. Ask of Aminu. Tell him I said hi. Ask him to explain Ohm’s law for you. Come back and weep for you Federal Character’ed Nigeria. Cheers.”

He added:

There are more stories. The world needs to know what I went through with NNPC recruitments in 2015 after PTI recruitment. I talk to my former school mates and they tell me the nuisance this federal character/quota is causing in NNPC. It’s a hot mess.
