It will soon be only two months of the year and many Nigerians are already appraising what they have achieved so far.

For some, the last two months of the year is a time to sit back and relax from all the hassles of the year. For others it is time to double up so as to meet the goals. Yet for some others it is the time to go all out to cover up for their inaction throughout the first 10 months.
The last two groups of people are mostly responsible for the strange things that happen during the period. Here are some of the strange things and ways you can avoid being a victim.

1. Commercial vehicle accidents.

In 2013, statistics revealed that 6450 Nigerians lost their lives in road accidents in Nigeria. Many more have lost their lives in the following years with many of the accidents occurring in the last months of the year. Why? If we take bad roads as a constant, then there are two other reasons.
One of the reasons is that many drivers are desperate to make as much money as possible within that few months, so they tend to ignore every other factor and make as many trips as possible. They put pressure on the cars and themselves and many times the result is sad.
The second reason is that there is unusually heavy traffic on the highways. Many more people travel around that time, in one way or the other, increasing the probability of accidents occurring.

2. Armed robbery.

Take it or leave it, the goal of many people whenever they work from the beginning of the year is to look good in December and probably go to their villages and shine among peers. This is one reason why armed robbery is usually rampant around that period. Some persons – who are also desperate to make easy money – latch in on this mass migration during the period to ambush unsuspecting home-comers. Travellers around that period should be very security conscious or avoid travelling all together.

3. Kidnapping

Although abduction for ransom is already common in Nigeria, the crime is known to be more common before now during the last months of the year. It is for the same reason that many people work throughout the year that these kidnappers intensify their clandestine moves too. Moreover, many people travel to areas they are not very familiar with for holidays, this makes them vulnerable to kidnappers.

4. Stress related diseases

Many people will work themselves to a point where they crash at this period. That is why diseases like high blood pressure, hypertension and cardiac arrest are rampant at this period. There is also the risk of over drinking alcohol that also leads to putting stress on the organs of the body and can lead to disease.
