Copa America

Brazil beat Argentina 2-0 in the semi-final to deny their most hated opposition a hope of ending their drought with a progress to the final of the ongoing Copa America.

It was a night of the English Premier League stars as Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus opened the scoreline with his 19th-minute goal, while Liverpool’s forward Firminho sealed it in the 71st minute courtesy of Jesus’s assist.

It just shows Messi’s drought will continue as the Argentines were outclassed by a more sophisticated Brazillian team.

Man Utd threaten to walk away from deal for Sancho

Published

on

Manchester United are on the verge of walking away from a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, the UK Mirror reports.

The Bundesliga club is refusing to lower their £110m valuation of Sancho, with United executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, not willing to pay above £80m.

It was believed the two teams would meet somewhere in the middle, with negotiations over staggered payments also an option.

But after failing to come to an agreement, the deal looks to be on the brink of collapse.

United may even consider returning next summer for Sancho, while looking at cheaper options this year.

The Red Devils believe paying anything more than £100m is ‘unrealistic’, given the current financial situation caused by COVID-19, and feel Dortmund are being unreasonable with their demands.

Fulham beat Brentford 2-1 in the Championship play-off final to secure an immediate return to the Premier League thanks to two extra-time goals from Joe Bryan.

The left-back caught Brentford goalkeeper David Raya off guard from 40 yards in the 105th minute of the game at Wembley, with the Spaniard expecting a cross and then unable to scamper back and save Bryan’s skidding low effort.

With Brentford pouring forward in search of an equaliser, Bryan burst forward and combined with Aleksandar Mitrovic before stabbing past Raya to make the game safe with three minutes remaining.

Henrik Dalsgaard pulled a goal back with a header from eight yards out in the fourth minute of added time, but it was too late for the Bees to spark a comeback.

Before Tuesday’s game, since the 1990/1991 season, Brentford have lost in all of their play-off campaigns.

The last time they played in the English top flight was way back in 1947.

With this, Fulham will now join Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion in earning promotion from England’s second tier to the EPL.

Manchester United are refusing to pay anywhere near Borussia Dortmund’s £108m asking price for Jadon Sancho after the latest round of talks between the clubs.

Negotiations are ongoing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target, but it’s understood the two sides are miles apart in their valuations of the England international.

Sancho’s wages are also a sticking point, with United determined not to upset their wage structure for a player so young.

Suggestions that personal terms worth £250,000-a-week had already agreed are believed to be premature.
