BREAKING: Benin beat Morocco 4-1 on penalties, qualify for AFCON 2019 quarter-finals
Benin shocked the football world on Friday after beating Morocco 4-1 on penalties in the first Round of 16 game of the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
Benin became the first nation to qualify for the quarter-finals following the victory over the North African nation.
It was also Benin’s first win of the tournament.
Morocco and Benin dragged into extra time in the game which ended in the most dramatic circumstances.
Benin’s Moise Adilehou had found the opener off a well-executed set piece in the 53rd minute.
Following a foul on Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi by Stephane Sessegnon, Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech stepped up and smashed a 94th-minute penalty against the post to leave the score at 1-1 leading to the first extra time of the AFCON 2019.
