Why meeting parents of Chibok girls may make Buhari cry

Published

It turns out that even country presidents have emotions like every other people.

Even if there’s no other reference before him, President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that he has emotions and it needs to be protected.

The president said during a recent interview with CNN’s Christine Amanpour that he tries to imagine the pains of the Chibok girls’ parents by putting himself in their shoes.

“I try to imagine my 14-year-old year old daughter missing for more than two years. I try to imagine what condition are they in,” he said.

“A lot of the fathers would rather see their graves, than imagine them under such condition.”

The president also revealed during the program that meeting parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls on a regular basis is not good for his emotional state.

“I saw the families as a group twice,” President Buhari said. “The first time, they came to visit my wife. The second, they came as a group to see me, and the less I see them the better for my own emotional balance.”

Buhari also said there was no point raising the hopes of the girls’ parents with proof of live videos, when the girls have not actually been rescued.

The president said he has not seen the proof of life videos recently released by the kidnappers close to the second year anniversary of the bduction.

“I have not seen that video and even if I see it, I will be very careful about showing it to the family,” the president said.

“There is no point to deliberately raise the hope of the families if you can’t meet them,” he said.

He added that the most important thing for now is to rescue the girls alive.
