Burial rites for murdered OAU don, Prof. Jerome Elusiyan, commences
Burial rites of the slain chairman of Medical Advisory Council of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife, Prof. Jerome Elusiyan, on Thursday with a commendation service.
Prof. Elusiyan, a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist was killed by unknown gunmen in Edo State on Friday, December 13.
At the commendation service held in his honour at the Chapel of Grace located in the premises of OAUTHC, Ile Ife, and attended by colleagues of the late university teacher, various speakers extolled his virtues of humility and selflessness.
Delivering a sermon, Pastor Matthew Oyelami, said human beings have limited time to spend on earth and urged people to live a virtuous life.
He said “We are all here to trade. This life is a market, we have to go back home one day. Therefore, let’s live each day in preparation for end, for death is certain.”
The cleric also lamented security challenges facing the country that has led to the loss of lives and property and appealed to government at all levels to find solutions to the menace.
The OAUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Victor Adetiloye, in his remarks, said the deceased lived a fulfilled life.
He said the vacuum Elusiyan’s demise has created would be difficult to fill, adding that the management of the hospital has decided to rename Paediatrics Ward 11 in the hospital as ‘Jerome Elusiyan Ward.’
