For the first time in Lagos, music lovers are set to see popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, performing jazz music.

The organisers of the Lagos Runway Jazz gave this hint while announcing a partnership deal with Universal Music Nigeria ahead of this year’s event on April 29 at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The founder of Runaway Jazz, Afolabi Kehinde Oke, said that Tiwa Savage was listed as part of the performers to give a different dimension to the music festival.

According to him, though the female singer is not known as a jazz musician, she passed through a music school and she understands different genres of music.

He stated,

“Tiwa Savage went to Berklee College of Music and graduated with a degree in professional music. So, she got the fundamentals and she can do anything as long as it is music – from jazz to hip-hop. On that day, you will see a different Tiwa.”

He also revealed that this year’s edition would be headlined by international artiste, Gerald Albright and there would be other performances by Sweet sound, Beyond Vocal, Heavy Wind and Society for Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN).

Speaking on collaborating with Runway Jazz, the Managing Director of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, Sipho Dlamini, said they were excited to be part of the festival as it was in accordance with their mission in Africa.

He stated,

“Universal Music is the number one entertainment company in the world because of the various activities that we are involved in. In Nigeria, as we do in other African countries, we operate a record label where we sign and develop local talents.  We also do live events; we partner with entities such as Runway Jazz. For us, it is a huge honour to be working with Runway Jazz Festival on this two-day event – the music conference and the jazz festival itself.”
