Carrots price falls in Katsina
The initiative of the Carrots Irrigation Farmers is yielding positive results as major markets in Katsina metropolis are experiencing glut in carrot production forcing down the price.
A survey conducted by a correspondent in Katsina on Wednesday showed that the farmers brought loads of carrots to Central market, New market, Yarkutungu, Kofar Marusa and Tsofuwar Kasuwa markets.
According to the survey, the farmers cultivated carrots at Jibia, Ajiwa, Kouar Are, Dheran, Dutsi, Zobe, Dallaje, Kafinsoli, Dangulbi and Safke Dams sites in Katsina senatorial zone.
The survey showed that two months ago, the price of 50k bag of carrots was sold at N4, 000, and now the price has dropped to N2, 000.
At most strategic places and streets in Katsina metropolis carrots, hawkers were seen selling the commodity all day long.
The Chairman of Katsina Metropolis Vegetable Sellers, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, said that the farmers had already produced carrots in large quantity this year.
Mohammed said that the high supply of the commodity was responsible for the fall in prices of carrots in Katsina town.
