Cars Vandalism: I once came close to rage at the Nigerian Embassy in London – Feyi Fawehinmi
As more Nigerians continue to condemn officials at the Nigerian High Commission in London over their unruly attitudes, a Nigerian financial and economic analyst, Feyi Fawehinmi, has also shared his agonising experience during a visit to the Nigerian High Commission in London.
Feyi said he almost came close to unleashing rage at the embassy after his experience there a few years ago.
His reaction was prompted by the action of a Nigerian man, Ewohime Apkovweta, who reportedly vandalised diplomatic cars worth thousands of pounds at the Nigerian Embassy in London on Monday.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission shared the video of Akpovweta’s action on Twitter, saying he had approached the Embassy to collect his passport at 2pm but was told that collection of passports closed at 1pm. Angered by this, he went on a vandalism spree, damaging about seven cars parked at the office.
Feyi, who took to Twitter to react to the incident, shared the experience of his visit to the embassy in 2011.
He said he had visited the embassy for an appointment to pick up his passport in 2011, but on his arrival at the commission, the office was not opened with a notice of closure pasted at the entrance.
Feyi said other Nigerians who had travelled down to the embassy became infuriated by the action of the officials who didn’t communicate the closure to applicants before fixing them for appointment on the day.
He wrote:
“That guy who damaged cars at the Nigerian High Co reminded me of the time I came close to rage there. Was given an appointment to pick up my passport. Took the day off work. Got there and met this sign on the door
“I was numb with anger that day. I just thank God for his only begotten son who was still at work in me, both to will and to work for His good pleasure etc
“Will they change? Will they do some soul searching even if that guy might end up in custody? Are you kidding me?
“On the day I took this photo, one guy came for his appointment with his family from Ireland. These guys could not even send a simple email or text message.”
