The UEFA Champions League will return on August 7 but with a little change in the format for the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The 2019-2020 Champions League, suspended since March because of the coronavirus pandemic, will be completed in Lisbon in August, UEFA said on Wednesday.

A “Final Eight” competition of one-off matches will begin in the Portuguese capital on August 12, with the final on August 23, European football’s governing body said.

The ties will be staged at two different stadiums – the Estadio da Luz and the Estadio Jose Alvalade – and it will be given the green light by UEFA’s ExCO committee on Wednesday.

Similarly, the Europa League will be completed with a “Final Eight” across four German cities including Cologne, with the final on August 21. The closing stages of the women’s Champions League will go ahead in Bilbao and San Sebastian at the end of that month.

Chelsea and Manchester City both have outstanding second legs from their last 16 ties with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid respectively and these are likely to be played in their own stadiums.

Manchester United, Wolves and Rangers are also still in the Europa League with that tournament set to be played out in a mini tournament in Germany with Frankfurt and Dusseldorf both in contention.

This will come as welcome news to PSG, who were facing the prospect of playing all their Champions League ties abroad, with sporting events banned in France until September.

They are one of four sides to book their place in the quarter finals after seeing off Borussia Dortmund in the last-16.

Joining them are Atalanta, Red Bull Leipzig, and Atletico Madrid.
