Charly Boy storms National Assembly, stops movement of lawmakers
Popular media personality, Charlyboy, popularly known as AreaFada, on Tuesday stormed the National Assembly with protesters, kicking against corruption.
The protesters were members of a group known as “Occupy Unlimited,” which is a civil society group that advocates good governance and a corruption-free society, led by the self-acclaimed ‘President of Frustrated Nigerians.’
Bearing placards with inscriptions, “Your future has been stolen, you have to fight”; “Encourage the culture of agitation; the culture of standing up for your bloody rights because nothing will change until you do so,” the protesters demanded a more open and transparent legislative system and that the budget of the lawmakers must be opened.
They also called for a slash in the salaries of political office holders by about 70 per cent; they demanded for a stop of state and local government’s joint accounts and the disclosure of details of National Assembly’s multi-billion naira budget.
It was gathered that the protest which continued today saw the front gate of the NASS blocked.
Charlyboy and his team were seen on bikes ranging from power bikes to ‘okada.’
The protesters blocked the main gate of the complex, restraining people from going in or coming out.
