Cleric calls out for the repair of a collapsed bridge in Kwara State.

A cleric, Sheik Abdullahi Nurudeen-Adana, has urged the Kwara Government to repair the collapsed bridge along Okoerin road in Ilorin West Local Government Area to improve economic activities in the area.

Nurudeen-Adana, who is the leader of the community, made the appeal while speaking with the Newsmen in Ilorin on Monday.

He decried the hardship being faced by residents in the area following the collapse of the bridge.

According to him, the economic activities of the area have been paralysed since the road is the only major road linking the community with other parts of the state.

He commended the state government for embarking on several roads construction and rehabilitation across the state and called for urgent action the repair of the bridge.

Nurudeen-Adana also called the attention of the state government to another bridge along Yidi road in Ilorin where large volume of water would collect whenever there was heavy rainfall.

He advised residents to desist from dumping refuse into the river to avert disaster.

The cleric called on the state government to provide waste bins to discourage the residents from dumping refuse indiscriminately.

Newsmen reports that the Okoerin bridge collapsed on June 14 during a heavy rainfall which lasted over five hours.

An incident occurred on the bridge when a Toyota car plunged into the river and three out of the five passengers in the car were reported to have drowned.
