Company director faces N59.9m theft charge
A 44-year-old director of a Lagos-based company, Peter Owojuyigbe, was on Friday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, for allegedly stealing chemicals worth N59.9 million.
Owojuyigbe, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Steven Molo, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offences on Nov. 1, 2019, and Nov. 2, 2019, at 6.00p.m. at No. 232, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
Molo said that the defendant stole 41 metric tonnes of Orgal and Barmocol chemicals worth N59.9 million.
The prosecutor said that the chemicals belonged Daniel Nig. Ltd.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Newsmen report that section 287 (7) provides for 10 years’ imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer, while section 411 provides two years’ jail term for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Oshin, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Oshin adjourned the case until March 9 for mention.
