Corona School Apapa celebrates 60th Anniversary [Photos]

In an emotion-laden atmosphere, Alumni of Corona School Apapa, Lagos came together on Sunday, July 8th, 2018 to celebrate their Alma Mata’s 60th Anniversary of existence, providing quality education for children at the Eko Hotels and Suites.

The Gala Dinner created a stage for the old student of the school to express their various appreciations, memories as well as lessons they have learnt through the years as a result of their educational grooming at the citadel of knowledge.

While delivering his welcome address, the Chairman Planning Committee, Mr Kelechukwu Mbagwu expressed his immense appreciation to all that showed support towards the planning process of the event and for making it turn out colourful.

A documentary of about 35minutes was projected on Corona School Apapa with random interviews with people who had passed through the institution within 1958 till recent.

In a bid to share individual testimonies of how the school have impacted their lives positively, the Executive Director of MicroEnterprises, Bank of Industry (BOI), Mrs Toyin Adeniji who doubles as an Alumni noted that “in terms of values, the school is a rounded school and among the schools hat have survived through time”

There was also a special address by Her Excellency, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, Wife of the Vice President of the Federal republic of Nigeria and a Corona School Apapa Alumin [1978] via a Live Webcam message. Mrs Osinbajo apologized for her absence and shared in the joy of everyone present at the event. She summed up her address with a Poem Presentation titled ‘Let’s Drink’. The poem captured the memories she had as a one time student of Corona School Apapa.

“I am proud to look back today and say my career was shaped at Corona School Apapa. True education is the key to unlock great things in life and such values were inculcated in me while at Corona School Apapa”, the Deputy Managing Director[DMD] of First Bank of Nigeria Limited and Alumni [1974], Mr. Gbenga Shobo noted while delivering his keynote address at the 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

For Two-time Lagos State governorship aspirant, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, the 60th anniversary was a time to go down memory lane. He spoke briefly of his beautiful moments when he was a student of Corona in the 6o’s. This he did by also highlighting the ‘Chocolate’ memories he had of the institution as well as the moral and ethical values imbibed in him to be a good leader and a global citizen.

In the same vein, Agbaje implored all Alumni to continually give back to their community and most importantly work together from time to time to give back to their Alma mata.

Agbaje who is also an Alumnus [1967] made these known while delivering his goodwill message. He also appreciated the school management for upholding strongly the A Class values which the school had maintained through the years. He encouraged all and sundry to view the institution as a brand and a bench mark for academic excellence.

Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu was ably represented by Mrs Adenike Onanuga. While delivering her goodwill message, she said, “I appreciate the high quality of education that has been given and is being given at Corona Schools through the years.”

The event had in attendance, high profile individuals and Alumni of the Prestigious Corona School; Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Mr. Gbenga Shobo,-DMD First Bank and Alumni (1974) and all the class of 77 alumni, Abdumalik Shaibu, Dr. Olayinka Akinwunmiju, Hannatu Wushishi-Dikko, Helen Olusumbola Bayela (nee Sadare), Yemi Faloye, Ibiere Bara Hart, Mbroh Abadoo, Odubayo Soyanwo, Ifeoma Onyekwelu (nee Okeke), Kelechukwu Mbagwu, Lanre Peters, Ruth Ossai Alokolaro, Ropo Akobundu (nee Akinsunmade), Oluwakemi Salami (nee Atilade), Tola Agoro-Alade, Tolu Olakanpo (nee Somoye), Toyin Adeniji, Tunde Osho, Vivian Ekona-Johnson, Alexandra Van Barckel (nee Hidiroglou), Emmanuel Akoko, Sanya Sanyanwo and Teju Babyface who doubled as the Master of the Ceremony [1990].
