A Nigerian couple, Mr. and Mrs. Omena Ubiaro, had died weeks apart, leaving five underage children. They reportedly died of bowel cancer.

As reported by Yahoo News UK, Omena died from bowel cancer just weeks after he tragically lost his wife, Makeda, to the same disease.

Thirty-eight-year-old Omena reportedly died from bowel cancer on Monday, September 4; while his wife, Makeda, passed away on July 29.

In a heartbreaking video posted online from his hospital bed just days before his death, Omena said cancer was the “toughest thing” he had ever had to face.

He said: “Myself and my five boys, we just lost my wife, they’ve lost a mother and I’ve also lost a best friend as well… It has been difficult for the boys, it has been difficult for myself.

“I know a lot of the time people say ‘be strong’, but sometimes it’s tough because I’m thinking ‘where do I find that strength from, that extra strength to be strong?’

“I cannot lie, it has been the toughest thing that a husband and a father has ever had to face or deal with.”

Omena had already been battling Stage 4 bowel cancer for two years when Makeda, also 38, was diagnosed with the same disease in August 2016.

Their family friend, Charles Busari, who lives in Tipton, West Midlands, set up an online fundraising page, to help the family.

It was initially to help raise money for Makeda’s funeral while her husband was bedridden in hospital, but the donations — which so far total more than £36,000 — will now be used to support the five boys in the future.
