COVID-19: Gombe to produce one million face masks [Photos]
The Gombe State Government is set to produce one million face masks to augment the deficit in face masks in the state.
This comes as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that the state has so far recorded 47 confirmed cases.
WuzupNigeria reports that Governor Inuwa Yahaya has advised all residents of Gombe State to ensure the wearing of face masks at all times to mitigate the spread of the virus.
According to the State Chairman on Covid-19 Prof. Idris Mohammed, the state task force has embarked on the production of over one million face masks to augment the deficit in face masks in the state.
Mohammed disclosed this on Wednesday at the presentation of Face masks, cartons of hand sanitizers and liquid hand wash by the National Youth Service Corps in Gombe.
He noted that the face masks will be distributed primarily to the indigent in the state, due to the increase in the cost of masks.
Mohammed said,
“We have since embarked on the production of over one million face masks for the people of Gombe State. We will pay initial attention to the less privileged who can not buy them in the market. I understand it is sold between 200 to 300 naira which is on the high side.
“We will distribute them quarter by quarter, district by district to the people of Gombe.
“Thank you NYSC for your national contributions in general and in your intervention against COVID-19.”
Speaking during the presentation of the items, Gombe State NYSC coordinator, Mrs. Florence Yaakugh, said the donation was their own contribution to the government in its war against COVID-19 pandemic.
She noted that NYSC had been up and doing in supporting national calls and as such will continue to contribute towards nation’s building by giving back to the government.
Yaakugh added that all the items donated were produced by Corps members in Gombe State.
She said the gesture was in line with the directive of the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim, to use Corps members under the umbrella of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (SAED) to produce preventive items and donate to state government.
