COVID-19: Osun Poly donates sanitizers to government

Management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree on Tuesday said it has donated 5,000 pieces of sanitizers produced by the institution to the state government.

The donation was said to be the institution’s contribution to efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the state.

Receiving the items, Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, represented by Special Adviser to Governor on Education, Mr Jamiu Olawumi, commended the creativity of the management of the institution.

Oyetola said, “it is a scored creativity that has made the institution to stand out among its peers in the state. The production of the hand sanitiser in the institution’s faculty of science is laudable and remarkable which the Government appreciates in high spirit.”

He assured the management that the state government would collaborate with the polytechnic through the Ministry of Education in patent registration of the product in order to commercialise the product and serve as a source of income for the institution.

A statement by the polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Tope Abiola, noted that while responding, the Rector, Dr. Woye Olaniran, said it was considered necessary at this crucial time to use the facilities, materials and personnel in the polytechnic to produce the sanitizer in order to join hands with the state government in its effort curtail the spread of the dreadful virus in the state.

He disclosed that the product would be circulated across the state for use.
